Orléans to the rhythm of the river between walks and festivals
The Loire, a royal river that was once the main economic route of the Kingdom of France, is an integral part of Orléans' heritage. Today, the banks and quays offer preserved spaces where it is pleasant to walk. Since 2003, every two years, in odd-numbered years, at the end of September, the "Loire Festival" in Orléans pays it a very fine tribute by dedicating a big festival to it. Today, it is the largest European gathering of river sailors. 600 bargemen, 400 artists and a hundred exhibitors bring the trades of yesteryear back to life. On the Loire, the toues, gabarres and other fûtreaux parade. Nautical jousts, sea shanties, shows, parades... The River becomes a great living theater for five days!
