Dijon: heritage and green spaces
Dijon is said to be as spicy as its famous mustard, voluptuous as its blackcurrant liqueur and as sweet as its gingerbread.
Half-timbered houses, private mansions, cathedrals and churches make up a rich architectural heritage which contributes to the quality of its city centre and makes it a popular tourist destination.
With 750 hectares of green and flowery spaces, Dijon ranks among the greenest cities in France, to the great pleasure of its residents and visitors who take the time to stroll.
- The Colombière park, created in the 17th century, is the favorite green lung of the people of Dijon. Listed as a historical monument, it has kept its French-style park character and is home to an exceptional diversity of trees and plants.
- The "Coulée verte" is very pleasant with its 2,2 kilometers of connection reserved for pedestrians and bicycles along the Ouche which leaves from the General Hospital to reach Lake Kir and its water sports center, the Colombière park. The agglomeration as a whole is home to more than 2 hectares of forests.
Dijon looks to the future: the arrival of the Tram and pedestrian Rue de la Liberté!
The City, as well as the Region and the Department of Côte d'Or, are looking to the future with many major projects underway. - The Dijon Tram with two lines, one inaugurated at the start of the school year in September 2012, the other at the beginning of December 2012, now structures the Dijon urban area by facilitating gentle travel between the different activity centers in the area.
- In the city centre of Dijon, a major construction site, which should be completed in May 2013, will give new impetus to commerce thanks to the pedestrianised Rue de la Liberté. The artery, which has more than 200 shops, terraces and restaurants, will thus be transformed into an open-air "shopping centre"!
