From Rouen Cathedral to the Elbeuf Circus-Theater

Rouen, "the city of a hundred bell towers" has a rich heritage. Some buildings are particularly emblematic.

- Attached to a Gothic belfry, the vault and the Renaissance pavilion of the Gros-Horloge houses a 16th century astronomical clock, one of the oldest clock mechanisms in France.

- Immortalized by Claude Monet, Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, the Gothic cathedral of Rouen dominates the city.

- The Place du Vieux Marché where the site of Joan of Arc's pyre erected in 1431 is today marked with a large cross, a few steps away, the Joan of Arc museum bears witness to the mark left on Rouen by the Maid of Orleans.

- The Grand Aître Saint-Maclou cemetery bears witness to the ravages of the great black plague of 1348.

South of Rouen, the 1892 Elbeuf Circus-Theater is part of the small circle of the last eight "permanent" circuses in France. Reopened in 2007 to house the regional circus arts center, it is a major cultural center in the region.

The Armanda of Rouen: the maritime and river event!

Every 5 years, Rouen hosts the Armada, an incredible and gigantic gathering of tall ships, boats and civil or military vessels. For ten days, 10 million visitors come to attend this maritime and river event, one of the most important in the world!
