PACA: an attractive region
Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur is the third richest and most populated region in France with 4,8 million inhabitants.
A leading tourist destination, one of the top in the world, it attracts some 34 million tourists each year.
Airports, gateways to the Mediterranean, ports, renowned seaside resorts, research centers, the first French university in Aix-Marseille, the first European science park in Sophia Antipolis... These multiple assets, added to a quality of life highly appreciated by entrepreneurs and their employees, make the PACA region one of the largest centers of economic activity in Europe. The Region is recognized for its expertise in many cutting-edge sectors: telecommunications, microelectronics, life sciences, aeronautics and space, marine technologies, multimedia as well as those of the agri-food, chemistry and logistics.
Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur: biodiversity and landscapes
In the South-East of France, with a border shared with Italy and a coastline that opens onto the Mediterranean Sea, the PACA region offers a rich natural diversity.
It is home to some of the richest fauna and flora in France. Of the 10 national natural parks in France, 4 are in PACA: Les Écrins, Mercantour, Port-Cros and Calanques. The 6 regional natural parks: Alpilles, Camargue, Lubéron, Queyras, Verdon and Pré-Alpes d'Azur complete this set of preserved and protected territories.
Relief: the Sainte Victoire mountain, the Alpilles, the Lubéron, the Mont Ventoux mark the landscapes of Provence with their silhouettes. They have inspired many great painters such as Cézanne, Picasso and Van Gogh.
Coastline: from the Camargue to the Côte d'Azur, the Mediterranean coasts also offer very contrasting landscapes from steep coves to the gentle beaches of fine sand from the Var.
